How to Make a Chai Latte at Home with a Milk Frother

Making a chai latte at home is easier than most people think. With a good sticky chai blend and the milk frother on your coffee machine, you can create a smooth, cafe-style cup in just a few minutes. It is a simple little ritual that brings out the full flavour of the spices without syrups or powdered mixes.

Why Sticky Chai Works So Well

Sticky chai is made by blending black tea and whole spices with a little honey. The honey helps carry the spices, giving a warm, rounded flavour when brewed, and it dissolves easily in hot water and milk.

At Blossom & Hive, our sticky chai is made with Australian-grown tea, whole spices and local honey, which makes it work especially well with a milk frother.

How to Make a Chai Latte with Your Milk Frother

1. Brew the Chai Base

  • Add 2 heaped teaspoons of Blossom & Hive Sticky Chai to a small teapot or heatproof jug.
  • Pour in about 1/3 of a cup of boiling water, just enough to cover the tea & spices.
  • Steep for 3 to 5 minutes. A shorter steep gives a gentler cup; a longer steep gives a stronger, more spiced flavour.

2. Froth the Milk

Use the steam wand or automatic frother on your coffee machine.

  • Fill your jug halfway with cold milk. Starting cold helps you get a better texture.
  • Whole milk gives the richest latte. Oat milk is a great dairy-free option and froths well. Soy and almond milk also work nicely with chai.
  • Froth until the milk is silky and warm, not boiling. Aim for a smooth, velvety texture rather than big bubbles.

3. Combine

  • Pour the hot milk over the brewed chai and stir gently to combine.
  • Let it rest for 20 to 30 seconds so the brewed chai and warm milk come together.
  • Strain the mixture into your mug to remove the tea leaves and spices.
  • Spoon the remaining froth on top and finish with a light sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg if desired.

Tips for a Better Homemade Chai

  • Play with strength: if you prefer a stronger chai, use a little extra sticky chai or steep the base closer to 5 minutes.
  • Use cold milk for frothing: cold milk gives you more time to texture it properly before it heats up.

Using your milk frother makes it easy to enjoy a warm, gently spiced chai latte at home, without the additives often found in commercial chai blends.

With Blossom & Hive Sticky Chai and a few simple steps, you can create a cosy, cafe-style brew whenever you feel like taking a quiet break.
